The City of Springfield is a rapidly growing city on the Missouri Ozark Plateau.  The City wished to capitalize on this growth while maintaining the high quality of life and natural beauty that makes the area so attractive. The City of Springfield commissioned an overhaul of their stormwater standards to optimize the protection of property, infrastructure and natural resources.

Intuition & Logic collaborated with the City, Greene County and the region’s stormwater steering committee to bring this goal to reality.  I&L was responsible for all open channel standards which includes engineered channels, previously engineered and natural channels.  This project posed many challenges for the community and successful implementation extends beyond writing technical standards. Stream design standards based in fluvial geomorphology differed from previous design criteria; so communicating the intent of the new criteria to local engineers was critical. The prevalence of karstic terrain in the region posed additional challenges to the development of open channel design criteria.
